Pet taxidermy FAQs
How long do I have to decide whether I can have my pet preserved?
If refrigerated we recommend that the animal not be left for more than a couple of days. It is desirable tht your pet be placed into a deep freezer after about an hour so that body heat has a chance to dissipate. You should use a linen pillow case or bed sheet to wrap your pet into until frozen. Once frozen a plastic bag can be placed over the linen to prevent freezer dehydration. Never place your deceased directly into a plastic bag before freezing as sometimes sweating can cause skin deterioration.
I changed my mind on what position I want my pet in after bringing him to you. Can you alter him?
This depends on what stage of the mounting process we are at and how big the changes are. Small changes are usually possible but large changes can often prove difficult. Please call us to discuss your options.
I don't have any photographs of my pet in the position I would like him preserved in, is this an issue?
Not at all. The internet is packed full of photographs. If you can provide us with a photo of another animal in the position you would like your pet in, we can do it. We can also work off detailed descriptions. We also love it when you leave the details up to us!
My pet is nearing the end of it's life. Is there anything I can do to prepare for the taxidermy process?
Yes. Firstly, having a collection of photographs (especially close-ups of the face) will help us to understand your pets look and character. When an animal passes away the muscle tone is lost and some key features may disappear. Secondly, make your vet aware of your plans if your pet has to be put down. They may be able to avoid shaving any hair or shave in a less obvious position.
What costs are involved in having my pet stuffed?
Prices are TBA. Factors such as species, position, breed, size and hair type need to be taken into consideration when quoting for your animal. Any deadlines will also need to be considered when providing a price. As a guide, small birds start from $330 and a Great Dane will cost in the vecinity of $10,000. Please note that mounting mammals is an extensive procedure which requires a lot of time and resources. Some pets will take over 12 months to complete depending on our current workload.
